Law and Economics
We so often think that spiritual doctrines like sanctification, justification, or heaven are more important than the doctrine of economics or law. But, as Rushdoony points out, this is Manichaeanism. Material things are not inferior to spiritual, nor is truth about material things inferior to truth about spiritual things. For all of our emphasis on the doctrines of justification and sanctification (good things to emphasize), we have neglected the doctrines of economics and law. If we can recover economics and law, while at the same time not neglecting the doctrines like justification, then we will be well on our way to teaching all the things that Christ commanded us (Matt. 28:18-20).
Modern Christianity has separated itself from reality to such an extent, that they have even separated themselves from the scriptures, in favor of "Walking in the Spirit". Diligent study and teaching of the Law Word of God is replaced with "Following the Spirit of God" and "Having the mind of Christ".
That's so true, Jeremy. We've likened it to the transition made by Israel in leaving the wilderness sojourn marked by "following the cloud" to city-building marked by the blueprints of the law.
As to common law, there's presumption of innocence(Isaiah 54:17)
Right to face you accuser(Isaiah 50:8)
Protection from those lie in weait to "ensnare you" for prosecution(Jeremiah 5:26-31)
Making a person an offender by a statute(Isaiah 29:21)
Protection from social zoning(Micah 2:4-5)
Two witnesses for any accusation (Deut 19:15)
Protection from perjury(Deut 19:19)
I wish I could agree with... I have found that people, in their individuality... commit all kinds of sin from Monday to Saturday... and go to church on Sunday... thinking they have gained absolution from all their iniquities.
