Bright Spots in the Storm
Despite the mess our economy is in, I am grateful that Chalcedon has thus far weathered the storm.

In the last two years, I have often referred to our dysfunctional economy as “third world.” The shortages, supply-line disruptions, and inflation are making it increasingly difficult for many people to make ends meet. All the while many people are slaves to debt.
Chalcedon is just about to submit to the printer a new title by my father (called Sermons in Zephaniah, Haggai, and Zechariah). The printer has already indicated it would be about six months before it was finished because the paper supply available to them is very limited. A couple of years ago, printers were calling us asking if we had any projects we would like them to bid. I‘m sure in your personal and business life you could illustrate similar problems. Such issues were once limited to communist regimes. Recently my wife and I were at a car dealership where I asked how long a lead-time there would be if we factory-ordered a car to our build-list specifications. We were shocked then the salesman said they would not order a car. “We sell what they send us,” he said.
Despite the mess our economy is in, I am grateful that Chalcedon has thus far weathered the storm. We are very grateful to our supporters for sustaining us the last two years. There are some bright spots in this mess. Just two are:
- Chalcedon’s book sales increased with Covid shutdowns, so our message has continued to be heard.
- Parents have abandoned the public schools over their shutdowns and their feeble efforts at remote learning. Both Christi8an schools and homeschooling exploded with Covid. (I’ll bet the power-hungry bureaucrats never saw that coming.)
There is another bright spot that is constant and everlasting: Jesus Chris is Lord of heaven and earth and of the increase of His Kingdom there shall be no end.

Mark R. Rushdoony graduated from Los Angeles Baptist College (now The Master’s College) with a B.A. in history in 1975 and was ordained to the ministry in 1995.
He taught junior and senior high classes in history, Bible, civics and economics at a Christian school in Virginia for three years before joining the staff of Chalcedon in 1978. He was the Director of Chalcedon Christian School for 14 years while teaching full time. He also helped tutor all of his children through high school.
In 1998, he became the President of Chalcedon and Ross House Books, and, more recently another publishing arm, Storehouse Press. Chalcedon and its subsidiaries publish many titles plus CDs, mp3s, and an extensive online archive at www.chalcedon.edu.
He has written scores of articles for Chalcedon’s publications, both the Chalcedon Report and Faith for all of Life. He was a contributing author to The Great Christian Revolution (1991). He has spoken at numerous conferences and churches in the U.S. and abroad.
Mark Rushdoony lives in Vallecito, California, his home of 43 years with his wife of 45 years and his youngest son. He has three married children and nine grandchildren.
