Student Worldview Conferences

You’ve probably heard by now — at least you should have heard by now — about the Christian Worldview Student Conference (CWSC) — held every summer at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. In recent years, over four hundred Reformed (and other Christian) young people converge on the University, surrendering a week of their exciting sun-splashed summer for an even more exciting week of instruction in relevant, Christian truth by some of America’s leading Reformed speakers. The CWSC is sponsored by Calvary Reformed Presbyterian Church in Newport News, Virginia. Humanly speaking, this conference is such a remarkable success because of the unflagging efforts of Rev. Byron Snapp, conference director, and host pastor, Rev. Pete Hurst. This past year’s conference was held July 9-14. The speakers were John Hodges, Peter Leithart, Joseph Morecraft, Herb Titus, and Steve Wilkins. Other speakers in recent years have included Gary DeMar, Kenneth L. Gentry, Jr., George Grant, James Nickel, Howard Phillips, Tom Rose, R. J. Rushdoony, P. Andrew Sandlin, Steve Schlissel, Steve Wilkins, and Douglas Wilson.

Next year’s conference will be held July 8-13, 2002. Scheduled speakers are Cal Biesner, George Grant, Steve Wilkins, and Gene Veith. This is often a life-transforming conference for Christian young people. I urge you to send them. For additional information, including registration materials, contact Byron Snapp at [email protected]. He wants to remind everyone that there was a waiting list of those who desired to attend this year’s conference, but were unable to do so due to limited space. So, if you are interested in attending the 2002 conference, be sure to register early once you receive the conference information.

Inspired by the teaching and fellowship of the CWSC, friends on the West Coast organized the West Coast Worldview Conference (WCWC). The WCWC is sponsored by Reformed Heritage Church, San Jose, California, with Zachariah Rousas Wagner as executive director. The conference was held this past summer, August 6-10, on the campus of Menlo College in Menlo Park, California, near Stanford. Speakers were Brian M. Abshire, Randy Booth, Gary DeMar, Kenneth L. Gentry, Jr., and P. Andrew Sandlin. The topics ranged from presuppositional apologetics, to postmillennialism, to preparation for the gospel ministry, to financing a college education, to six-day creation, to godly leadership, to Biblical activism. Next year’s conference will be held August 4-9 at a location to be announced. For information, contact Zachariah Wagner at [email protected].

I judge these conferences to be vital instruments in the cause of godly reformation in the family, in the church, and in the wider society. Please support them, and send your young people.
