Stonewall Jackson once inquired of a companion, “Did you ever think, sir, what an opportunity a battlefield affords liars?” In a world of religious hucksters and imposters, our spiritual battlefield today presents quite an opportunity for such deceivers. The exploding shells of revised history and emasculated Christianity have taken the spiritual lives of many of the church’s soldiers. Others wander on the battlefield, their souls wounded by a pervasive deception. Yet, by God’s grace providence has, through the ages, given us men who engaged the enemy armed with the truth of God’s Word.

Using the weapons of a keen mind and a sharp pen, R. J. Rushdoony battled with the enemies of Christianity for decades, warring tirelessly for years in relative obscurity. Yet, his quest for truth and his effort to share what he discovered with others will be noted for generations. Personally, Rush’s writings caused me to question many common antinomian notions of modern Christianity. His work in the field of Christian education and his subsequent influence there is immeasurable. I incorporated many of the principles he espoused into homeschooling my own children. While he is missed, his influence will live on and he has left us with many weapons to continue the fight. May we righteously use those weapons on the battlefield where God has placed each of us.
