…" 'My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.' But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which he swore to your fathers, as it is this day" (Deut. 8:17, 18 NAS).

When blessings come,
our nature to credit ourselves
as being the reason for the accomplishment,
far exceeds the humility we feel when God,
by His grace brings victory out of our defeat,
and prosperity out of our want.

"Alas, how little is man to be trusted: how little is he able to bear being put into the place of honour! How quickly self rises to the surface, and the instrument is ready to believe he is something more than an instrument! How sadly easy it is to make of the very service God entrusts us with a pedestal on which to display ourselves."1
