Idolatry. Calvin in his institutes of the Christian religion devotes considerable space to the subject of idolatry. He declares that idolatry means all images of God, whether material or immaterial, whether carved by a woodcutter or sculptor, or fashioned by a philosopher or theologian. Calvin declares that only God can describe himself.
