"Leaders Are Readers"

In an effort to help those who are inclined to the Christian Reconstructionist perspective of R. J. Rushdoony, the Chalcedon Foundation is beginning its second year of the Book of the Month Club, where Rushdoony’s books are discussed during an online meeting.

A quote attributed to Harry Truman, “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers,” rings true in my experience.  Ask a fellow believer, “What book(s) are you currently reading?” and you often get a blank stare. It is not hard to conclude that these folks will not be leaders in the current battle(s) against Christ and His Kingdom. Too many rely on televised or social media for a basis for their point of view.  They do not realize that what they are often getting is pre-digested information, full of the presuppositions of the authors. Many times these are little more than a “ghost written” marketing (propaganda) approach, than serious writing.

In an effort to help those who are inclined to the Christian Reconstructionist perspective of R. J. Rushdoony, the Chalcedon Foundation is beginning its second year of the Book of the Month Club, where Rushdoony’s books are discussed during an online meeting.  Our goal is to facilitate the creation of cultural leaders who can guide their families and community with a true appreciation that the Christian Faith is a Faith for all of life. In 2017, eleven books were covered and the discussions are available on our website.  While the participants read the book(s) prior to the meeting, for those who may find they need some impetus and help to read a given book, they may benefit from listening to the discussions prior to reading the books themselves.

In 2018, twelve books are scheduled with volunteer moderators who will lead the discussions.  We chose moderators specifically because of their familiarity with the given topic of a particular book, and their passion for seeing the Kingdom of God advanced in an orthodox and faithful fashion.

Our first offering will be this coming Monday, January 8, 2018 with Mark Rushdoony leading the discussion of his father’s book, Noble Savages: Exposing the Worldview of Pornographers and Their War against Christian Civilization. This title is available as an e-book or paperback, and can be read on the website. You must register for this online meeting in order to participate.  The online meeting begins at 6:00 PST, 8:00 CST, and 9:00 EST.

R. J. Rushdoony was the quintessential reader, and there is no doubt that his leadership has spawned a generation of those eager to advance God’s Kingdom. Become a reader that leads, and enjoy the fellowship of like-minded believers during our Book Club monthly meetings.
